WREXHAM PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP
Meeting Minutes
A record number of 42 members attended the meeting. There were 4 apologies received, and we were pleased to welcome 5 new members.
Our guest this month was the Mayor of Wrexham Jeremy Kent who has maintained strong links with us. He explained how he was able to share the positive results of his PSA test with us and was so complimentary on the impact we are making in the region. Additionally, he was able to confirm that he has nominated WPCSG as one of his nominated charities.
Ian Edwards proudly confirmed that the group has officially been granted charitable status albeit Mal and Phil are required to provide their national insurance details to finalise things.
John Hackett provided an update on the Carden PSA Testing Event, stating very similar results to our event in July noting that those in the 40-50 category were higher than anticipated.
Chairman Malcolm stated that he was extremely disappointed the senior Health Board individual that is accountable for approving the Focal Therapy business case has been signed off on “Gardening Leave” He has a subtle plan to “Keep the show on the road” and has a diary date to talk to Ken Skates who is now the Welsh Labour leader at the Senedd.
In view of the next meeting clashing with the Wrexham FC fixture, we checked how many members would be absent. The numbers were low so we will proceed and meet on the 4th November.
Phil reported that the website licence is due for renewal and proposed that in view of the fact the site at https://wrexhampcsg.co.uk/ received 18,000 hits we should renew it a very minimal cost. This was unanimously agreed. In addition, he is looking into enhancing the site to give a link to a Just Giving element to raise funds.
The business networking group CONNECTUS invited Phil and Ian to a fundraising event at Hotel Wrexham with rugby legend Sir Ian Robert McGeechan. Profits from the raffle and auction raised £3200 and this has already been paid into our account.
The group have been gifted a large box of accessories supporting men who have water leakage issues and Phil is looking for a volunteer to share them with members. Much discussion took place regarding our annual Yuletide party. Phil will develop a proposal to find a suitable date in addition to our meeting and the focus being entertained by a tribute group such as Abba, Bee Gees, Dolly Parton. The proposal will include food costs and prices.
We spent a considerable amount of time interacting with our new attendees who appeared delighted with the support and feedback. Two items worthy of follow up were sharing the Welsh Health Orgs policy on PSA testing and the absence of a process to capture the patient feedback once treatment has ended,
With all business concluded, an extremely successful meeting was brought to a close at 8:40 pm.

His Worship The Mayor of Wrexham joined us for the night
