WREXHAM PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP
MONTHLY REPORT – 3rd JUNE 2026
•Tonight, we opted to add a new dimension to our meeting and Andrew Roberts a valued senior delegate from MENCAP proved to us how our well-being would be improved through the power of song.
•A quick ‘hands-up’ audit asking how many have acted on the advice given last month on the importance of ensuring plans have been put in place to review such aspects as Wills, Probate, Power of eternity etc. 8 members have done so.
•Mark Connolly provided an update on the success of his 1in 8 sponsored walk around Wrexham and is optimistic when all money is collected, the amount will be circa £4,000
•I have now made arrangements for us to host a free PSA Testing day here at Hotel Wrexham on 18th July. 60 tests have been booked and booking details will be forwarded shortly.
•John will hopefully brief us on the arrangements being put in place to support and promote his forthcoming Charity Golf Day. The event is almost a sell out with just one four ball space available. Members were asked to seek out help in acquiring additional programme adverts and aution items.
•We are now in a position to share the update we have had from our MP Andrew Ranger and is shown later as as an attachment.
•Discussions cantered around the recent press release on the Governments stance on Testing advice. :-
Recommendation to be:
For a targeted screening programme, involving prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing every 2 years, for men aged 45 to 61 who have a pathogenic (able to cause disease) BRCA2 variant and a family history of breast, ovarian, pancreatic, or prostate cancer
against population screening for prostate cancer
against targeted screening for any other risk groups
Continue close working with UK researchers, including the TRANSFORM trial
• Before we introduced the star of the night Andrew we focused on member care and invited old and new participants to comment on their health issues. Several members felt they might benefit from having a private consultation with Professor Shergill at Spite Yale. This is achieved by calling Spire on 01978- 291306
