WREXHAM PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP
MONTHLY REPORT – 1st APRIL 2026
• There were 28 members in attendance with several apologies noted.
• At the start of the meeting this lovely couple Roland and Lyn Davies provided us with a cash donation.
• Joining us for the first time was Craig who is the youngest person to ever attend our meeting and he brought the average age of attendees down. He articulated his personal journey and members were able to offer words of encouragement.
• Our keynote speaker this month was Debbie Critchley from the TENOVUS cancer charity who travelled to join us from her Caernarvon base. We were quite overwhelmed by the abundance of options available not just to support cancer patients but also their families. There is support available on after life care, probate, will writing services etc. I am hoping Deb will be able to share her presentation foils to I can share them with you.
• I provided an update on the successful fundraising event I helped organise wearing my Erddig Rotary Hat. It was somewhat stressful as the Abba Tribute girls cancelled due to illness really late in the day. Glady the agent sent a Bee Gees act and Barry Gibb went down a storm and the icing on the cake wraising almost £1000 from the brochure I produced.
• Mal also provided an update on our Prost8 focal therapy project confirming a business plan has now been forwarded to Betsi Cadwalladr and steady progress is being made.
• We have agreed to welcome and host the Tenovus Choir for a team sing-a-long at a future meeting.
PLANS FOR 2026
- A top priority in 2026 will be to raise further funds in support of the eventual delivery of Focal Therapy solutions at the Maelor Hospital.
- There is a desire to have more local access for Prostate Cancer surgery not losing sight of course the excellent benefits in receiving Da-Vinci Robotic surgery in London.
- Address the absence of information of not offering Focal Therapy treatment to new patients.
- We need support from the Urology doctors and clinicians to recruit new members.
- We have reached agreement to host a 2026 PSA Blood testing event.
- Accelerate the impetus on moving forward on the Prost8 project.
- We need to achieve better outcomes when engaging with NHS Execs and Politicians. 8. Accelerate the impetus on moving forward to become a registered charity
