WREXHAM PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP MONTHLY REPORT – 7TH January 2026
Thanks were expressed to the many members who managed to make it to the January meeting, despite the inclement weather.
• All those who attended the Christmas event at Hotel Wrexham in December wanted to express their thanks and relate how much they enjoyed the evening. especially the Elton John tribute act.
• We had no guest speaker but it was a fruitful evening with an update on all the members’ current situations with their prostate journey, which resulted in some interesting comments and observations.
• There was one new member, Daryl, who updated us on his current situation. He started his radiotherapy treatment at Glan Clwyd this week and it was interesting to hear that he’d been informed that he would only have 5 sessions instead of the usual 20. This is a new experiment at Glan Clwyd which if it proves successful should be a bonus, particularly for men from the Wrexham area because of the travelling involved. He also informed us about the “Family Friends Group” which he attends and he agreed to invite a representative to one of our future meetings.
• We also had a special guest, Ian Phillips, who was one of the organisers and participant in the Rhos Rugby Club’s “Movember” initiative. They decided to nominate us as their charity, particularly as we were a local group and we were absolutely delighted when he presented us with a cheque for £805. We have invited him and some of his colleagues to join us again to a meeting in the future. (We await a pictured from Ces)
• Ian Edwards has also volunteered to bring to our AGM in March details of the advantages and disadvantages of our Group applying for charity status in the future.
• At our next meeting in February we hope to welcome Paul Sayers who is Founder of the Prost8 Group, based in the south of England, who has agreed to help us with the proposed introduction of Hifu and Cryotherapy treatments for prostate cancer at the Maelor Hospital in the future.
