Ploughfest Charity Event

Over 500 village folk helped make the recent Ploughfest Charity Event an overwhelming success. Publicans Vicky Griffiths and Tom Evans agreed to involve a local charity which was the Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group. Ten of the pub regulars spearheaded by Mikey Jones formed a partnership with me to project manage the event and everything went off without a hitch – well almost.

We received much support from the village shops and businesses who supplied the prizes for the raffle and auction. The icing on the cake being a £1,000 sponsorship of the event by Steve Griffin the Managing Director of SG Estates. In the evening the crowd were entertained by local band Blue Art plus 2 talented musicians Carl Harrison and Luke Gallagher who both handed back a contribution from their appearance fees.

All of the proceeds will go towards the groups challenge to help purchase equipment to treat prostate cancer patients at the Wrexham Maelor. Hospital. We will presenting a £11,311 cheque to Professor Iqbal Shergill at our monthly meeting on the 5th July at 7pm at The Trevor Arms, Marford, A warm welcome awaits to those men in Wrexham and surrounding area who have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer or merely think they have symptoms. This invite is to also prick the conscious of my Facebook male friends knowing that early detection is critical and follow up treatment will significantly increase your life expectancy!!
